What Is Achondroplasia
According to The U.S National Library of Medicine, achondroplasia is a type of dwarfism. (“1. Achondroplasia). Dwarfism is a category of genetic disorders that generally cause those affected, to be shorter than average (“1. Achondroplasia”). Achondroplasia causes those afflicted with it to have trouble turning cartilage into bone (“1. Achondroplasia). Cartilage is a type of tissue that gets replaced by bone usually (“1. Achondroplasia). Those affected, are shorter than an unaffected person, and on average have shorter arms and legs, but an average sized torso (“1. Achondroplasia). Some symptoms of achondroplasia, are frequent ear infections, obesity, and apnea-times where breathing becomes slower, or stops entirely for a brief period of time (“1. Achondroplasia). Some more physical symptoms of achondroplasia include shorter than average fingers, and macrocephaly (“an enlarged head” (“1. Achondroplasia).
