According to The Little People of America, they’re researching the use of protein as a possible cure. They have figured this out, by injecting mice with achondroplasia, and then giving the mice a protein known as “soluble FGFR3”. This protein reduces the bending of the spine by as much as 74%, and makes the mice continue their usual growth (Okenfuss, “Research and Treatments”).
According to Horizon 2020, in 2012, a pharmaceutical company called BioMarin had created a drug, they think will help control bone growth. The drug is called BMN-111. As of 2012, they are unsure of if BMN-111 will be safe for human beings to use. They are also unsure of if BMN-111 will be okay for children to use (“Researchers Identify Protein as a Possible Cure for Dwarfism”).
According to The National Organization of Rare Diseases, it says that they are doing multiple studies, including research on height and weight and research when the patient is asleep. They also do research on the patient while they’re newborn (“II. Achondroplasia.”).
